Zahtar consists of volatile components such as carvacrol, thymol, p-cymene, y-terpinene. The main volatile component is carvacrol. The essence of the plant contains mainly phenolic compounds and rosmarinic acid is the most prominent active ingredient. Antioxidants and components such as rosmarinic acid and carvacrol in zahter have antibacterial, antifungal, insect repellent, analgesic and anti-infection effects.
